Public Records

The City Clerk will oversee compliance with the Public Records Act but may designate other City staff members who may process requests for public records. The City Clerk or his/her designees shall provide the fullest assistance to requesters, ensure that public records are protected from damage or disorganization, and prevent fulfilling public records requests from causing excessive interference with the essential functions of the City.

When making your request, please be as specific as possible so we can conduct a thorough and accurate search.

For more information, please review the City of Ocean Shores rules of procedure and ordinance regarding the public Records Act. The Public Records Act provides that a number of types of documents and/or parts of documents are exempt from public inspection and copying. See the below links for more information about exemptions.


COURT RECORDS

Court records fall under GR 31, 31.1, and 22. They do not fall under the Public Records Act. If you are requesting Ocean Shores Municipal Court documents, please contact Ocean Shores Municipal Court with the request. Their contact information can be found at this link

 


The City may assess a charge for copies of public records as authorized by RCW 42.56.120  or other law as applicable.  The City's fee schedule is as follows:

Photocopies, printed copies of electronic records when requested, use of City equipment to make copies 15 cents per page

Scanned records, use of City equipment for scanning 10 cents per page
Records uploaded to email, or cloud-based data storage service, or other means of electronic delivery 5 cents per each 4 electronic files or attachments

Records transmitted in electronic format or for use of City equipment to send records electronically 10 cents per gigabyte

Digital media storage or devices Actual cost
Any container or envelope used to mail copies Actual cost
Postage or delivery charges Actual cost
Copy charges above may be combined to the extent more than one type of charge applies to responsive copies.
Customized service charge: When the request would require the use of IT expertise to prepare data compilations or when such customized access services are not used by the County for other business purposes Actual cost. The City must notify the requester that it will be doing a customized service and can require a 10 percent deposit.
