| The Ocean
Shores Police Dive Team is a component of the Surf Rescue Team. In 2005 the Ocean
Shores Police Department realized a need for a specially trained team of individuals
to conduct underwater rescues and recoveries on short notice. These individuals
would be capable of responding to any of the 26 miles of interconnected waterways
and lakes within Ocean Shores as well as assisting other jurisdictions in and
about Grays Harbor. The current team
consists of five certified divers. Team leader Deputy Chief Russ Fitts heads the
team consisting of Surf Rescue Team members Sgt. Paul Luck, Officers Eric Cochran
and Kyle Watson and Ocean Shores Firefighter/Paramedic Curt Begley. The
Dive Team currently is totally funded through community donations. Public donations
allowed for the purchase of basic dive equipment for all of the members. The Dive
Team is still in the process of obtaining specialized equipment and gladly accepts
any donations.
